We are so honored to share with you our guest blogger today, Katherine McKern. Katherine wrote into us with her experience on Benner Fit so we wanted to share with you all her amazing progress! Keep rooting her on, this is a prime example of why we launched Benner Fit. We want to make the world a healthier and happier place!
Go Katherine! <3
My name is Katherine and I wanted to tell you a little something about my journey to health with BennerFit.
It was in high school that I met the lovable Sydney Benner. She was enthusiastic, encouraging and inspiring back then just as much as she is today. I remember looking up to Syd and her love for life. She was a fantastic dancer and performer of whom I admired a great deal!
My journey to health started a long time ago, most recently, in the last 6 years. Graduating high school and entering my twenties, I was in the best shape of my life. I was a girl who struggled with her weight, but it was never life threatening nor did it effect anyone but me. A little over a year ago my type 1 diabetes was out of control and (with blood work drawn) my doctor told me I was going to have a heart attach at 27 unless I took meds for my cholesterol and high blood pressure. It scared the bejeezus out of me! Here I was, 6 years married, over 100 pounds over weight and I was living a miserable life that would only become more miserable unless I did something to change it.
The first time I watched a BF circuit was just as Syd and Brooke were launching this new and exciting tool. I followed Sydney on FB and was kept up to date with each weekly video! I was in love. Could I do this? I remember watching the first circuit on my computer and thinking to myself, "I can totally do this. It seems easy enough!" And it WAS something I could do, even at 267 pounds. It was more than just another work out video! It was a sweet, genuine, and motivating face on the TV screen that cared about my health and that care and concern was so easily conveyed through the screen. Along with Brooke's awesome photog/video/blogging skills, this team helped get my booty MOVING. And I am so thankful!
In June of this year, I elected to have weightless surgery. (I had a VSG, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, basically leaving my stomach the size of a banana.) I was at the peak of my unhealthy life and found that it was what I needed and WANTED for my life. With my husband deployed in Afghanistan for 9 months with the US Army, a group of encouraging friends and family, I went thru with the surgery and came out on the other side victorious! It wasn't until about 1 month after surgery that I found the desire to exercise. My doctors were pushing me to get out there, but I was NOT ready. I started going to the gym and walking on the treadmill, and that was ok. I was walking without pain and was feeling great, but it wasn't something I was LOVING, nor was it working my body enough to get the results my doctor or I were wanting.
BennerFit's circuits have become my go-to exercise! I don't need a gym, all I need is my cell phone, our XBox or a computer to stream these bad boys! (Who doesn't have at least one of the three?!) There's no room to feel intimidated or overwhelmed by others. Instead, I feel like I have my own personal trainer pushing me, encouraging me and cheering me on through out the entire work out!! Plus, they're FUN! My favorite thing I love about these videos is how intimate they feel. Syd doesn't stop talking to you, she walks you step by step through the work out and doesn't let you fall.
The newer work outs that incorporate more dance-like movements are easily becoming my favorite! (Every time Katy Perry's, "Roar," comes on the satellite radio during the day, I stop what I'm doing (chores, mostly) and do the circuit for that song! I know it by heart, now.)
Ya see, as a weight loss surgery patient you hear about the dreaded, "plateau." Boy, did I hit it! I wasn't losing the normal pounds I was used to losing. Since stepping up my cardio time from the easy 10 minutes to 30 minutes a day, I've been steadily losing weight again!! I owe that all to BennerFit! Even with weightless surgery, you have GOT to keep moving and, "loving that body," as Sydney would say. =) I've lost a total of 60lbs since June and am continuing to feel stronger and more empowered with every workout.
I don't know how these two came together, all I know is that the product they've created has helped change the way I look at fitness. It can be fun, it can be FREE and easily done with a little bit of faith in yourself!
Thank you, sweet ladies, for having me on your blog!
