Wonton Pizza

Wonton Pizza

Alright, so maybe the last time I wrote about food I perhaps gave a pizza recipe. And maybe this ignited a pizza kick deep inside me. Thankfully I didn't go crazy bonkers and order a huge pizza and devour the whole thing. I rather found this super clever recipe on Dashing Dish.

This number has made me completely obsessed with wontoning.  I now want to stuff everything into a wonton wrapper, because it is delish! {Can we talk about how evil Brooke wants to put Nutella, peanut butter and banana in there? No? Ok.} At first I feared the wonton - like I fear Filo dough, and other seemingly fragile flaky bases. But once I got in there, I realized how simple (and rugged - not as fragile as I imagined) these were to work with, they won me over 100%.  Try these out and you will see for yourself how fun and easy a wonton can be!

Wonton Wrappers

1/2 cup Pizza Sauce

1/2 cup Lowfat mozzarella / veggie cheese

1 tsp. Italian Seasoning

1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder

A pinch of black pepper

1/8 cup Parmesan Cheese

Toppings of your choice - I went with approx. 12 Tofurky Pepperoni slices, quartered

Preheat oven at 450 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Mix pizza sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, mozzarella and your favorite toppings in a bowl. (I split my mixes to make half pepperoni, half plain cheese.) Stir until combined.

Create yourself an assembly line...

Grab a wonton wrapper. In the center of the square, place a small spoonful of pizza mix. Wet your finger in the water and trace two edges of the wonton. (This water will be your sealant.) Fold over the wonton so the two dry edges meet the two damp edges. Press to seal. Your wonton should shut tight like an envelope - if not, add a bit more water (don't go too crazy!).

Continue prepping however many pizza wontons you see fit for your serving. Once they are all ready to go - place them on your baking sheet. Spray with a mist of non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle with Parmesan and they are ready for the oven!

Bake for 10-15 minutes. Be sure the tops are a nice golden brown and the edges are crispy.
